Adventurer 2800 Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of battery does it use?

Adventurer 2800 uses the latest inbuilt Lithium Polymer battery rechargeable through mini USB. Both a main charger and car charger are included in the box. In common with most new mobile phones you can also use mini USB rechargers/extenders, such as Power Chimp (capable of recharging Adventurer 2800 twice) and even solar panels to recharge your GPS.

How long does the battery last?

We've designed the Adventurer 2800 to be used for a typical days walking or cycling so average battery life is around 8 hours. Actual battery life will depend on many factors including backlight settings and ambient temperature. We recommend selecting 30 Sec backlight timeout in the Power Save settings menu. For longer trips we recommend you use the 'hot standby' feature which will give you many days use on a single charge and allow you to quickly obtain your GPS position to guide you on your way when you need it, just as you would normally use a map and compass.

How can I extend the battery life?

Make sure the unit is fully charged before you leave, preferably using an overnight charge. Keep the GPS warm, maybe by storing in a coat pocket rather than exposed on a rucksack strap as, just like us, batteries use more energy when cold!

Adjust the Power Save settings to time out the backlight after 30 secs or less. As Memory-Map software will automatically join up your gps tracklog consider using the 'hot standby' feature which will give you many days use on a single charge.

What does 'weatherproof' really mean?

We’ve designed and tested the unit to be used outdoors but avoided the claim that some manufacturers make of being ‘waterproof’ as Adventurer GPS cannot be used under water! We therefore think ‘weatherproof’ is a better description. If you intend to use your Adventurer GPS in an activity where it may become submersed in water (eg sailing or canoeing) then we recommend the added protection of a waterproof bag such as those from Aquapac.

The IP rating for Adventurer 2800 is IPx5 (Protected against low pressure jets if water from all directions)

Can I use the Adventurer 2800 in my car as a 'satnav'?

Yes but this is only curently available for Europe. You can purchase European satnav software on SD card as an accessory for your Adventurer 2800. This is provided by our engineering partner Snooper, uses the latest Navteq maps and features European street maps with postcode look-up and turn by turn voice direction using Adventurer 2800’s inbuilt speaker. For more details please refer to www.snooperuk.com

What size SD card can I use?

You can use up to a 16GB card in the Adventurer 2800, but examples of the size of maps; NZ Topo 3.5GB, NSW Topo 6GB, Vic Topo 4GB, Tas Topo 3.5GB

What other maps can be used?

You can save any Memory-Map maps to your SD card. These currently include topo maps for UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand & Australia with more coming soon. You can also add any other Memory-Map’s maps including marine and aviation charts, aerial photos, street maps and even maps from the Historical range!

What are the dimensions and weight?

Compact and lightweight Adventurer 2800 measures up at 108x56x20mm and weighs in at just 135g. Like for like with batteries, that's 30% lighter than a Garmin Oregon
